Verses from the Past Haiku

Poet, lithe, cheerful,
framed by afternoon sunlight,
ascends Mount Fuji.

She raises her frame,
and then lowers it again,
and slowly exhales.

In her kitchen, still,
holds a cup of kee-mun, sips,
bare but for her socks.

(from the Breakfast Table of Archibald Lampman)
